Would you like to be involved in the community garden or in assisting with events? Then why not join the “ Antrim Castle Gardens Friends Society” and work alongside Council staff in the development of gardening heritage activities and a year-round programme of events. Volunteer can enjoy “hands-on” experience of gardening with fellow gardeners. You will be able to use facilities such as indoor and outdoor workshop areas, potting sheds, glasshouse and specific areas assigned for community gardening. The first public information meeting will be held in the Old Courthouse, Antrim on Wednesday 5th October at 7pm.
On Tuesday 21st September, the Wolfhound returned home to Antrim Castle Gardens. Legendary protector of Lady Marian Clotworthy and later guardian of Antrim Castle in the 17th century, the hound was immortalised in stone in tribute for heroic service. In a feat of engineering agility, the stone Wolfhound was lifted by crane from Antrim Forum lawn at 9.30am and travelled the short distance, across the Sixmilewater River, back to Antrim Castle Gardens. At times over the summer, the extraordinary number of professional services on the Antrim Castle Gardens construction site has been impressive. From construction services to architects, from surveyors to tree surgeons, not to mention the landscape architects, IT engineers, and shop fitters, many people are working to restore the Clotworthy House complex. If construction works proceed at the current rate, the buildings should be occupied by this coming Autumn.
